1920s garnet & pearl brooch

i would like too know more about this brooch. it's comprised of garnet gemstones with little tiny pearls threaded in between each garnet row. the pin part is what looks to be brass but i've been told it might be silver that's been gold plated. the back has very intricate scroll patterns etched in it. i'd like to know where it was made and is it an antique? Thank you.
