Egyptian Gold Mark by: Yvonne
since 1946, the egyptian gold mark has been a seagull. The funny looking bird you can see (but we can't) is most likely the Egyptian gold mark for 18k.
The Assay & Weights Administration is the controlling authority of Egyptian gold marks and examining and appraising precious metals in Egypt today.
Thank you for replying to my question. Yes, I am sure it is 18K as I have acid tested it, and also, I bought it from a reputable seller.
I will re-send a photo for you to see. The mark itself is not very clear, but I will try. The one image that is clear is the middle stamp, which is a bird, done in hieroglyphic style. The letters appear to be Arabic.
Thanks again.

Egyptian Ring with Lotus Hallmark? by: Yvonne Hammouda-Eyre
Be suspicious of gold markings and especially from third world countries. For instance, they could very well be Arabic marks but are they authentic Arabic gold marks? Unfortunately, arrests for faking gold marks are common in Egypt.
The Lotus, is the Ancient Egyptian symbol of life everlasting and the Ancient Egyptian Lotus flower appears on a lot of Egyptian jewelry, not necessarily Ancient Egyptian jewelry.
Are you positive the ring is 18 kt Solid Gold? You mention a bird pictorial mark. This very strongly suggest the ring is Egyptian made (after 1946) plus the Egyptian gold mark symbol is a seagull (a bird) and 18k is the gold standard in Egypt.
From the photograph it looks like the gold is wearing on the rim of the band in the bottom left-hand corner. Probably just the photo. If it is solid gold it will not peel of flake. I would be testing the gold myself, I use the - Electronic Gold Tester M24 Gold Tester 9 Through 24k Gold Testing
If you can get a close-up shot of the mark, send through another submission with the attached photo and I will manually upload into your original submission. Also a photo of the front of the ring. We have an Arabic translator on the guru team.
