I have my great-grandmother's gold wedding band from 1895, Massachusetts. The mark inside is a W with a tree under it. I can't find that mark in any of my searches. Help??

Russian Stamps by: Yvonne Hammouda-Eyre
Hey Therese - anyone can make and stamp jewelry. There's often confusion with Hallmarks in general because there is no worldwide registry for Hallmarks or Maker's marks. Overseas manufacturers would not comply for example, with British standards, or French, etc.
The 'Star' Hallmark is connected to Russia yes-but in this case (although you didn't mention where you bought the ring) because it is stamped 14k - the ring was probably not made in Europe.
In Russia, they use two digit numbers referred to as "zolotniks" which convert to thousandths. 14k would be stamped 56.
Also without seeing a photo of the marking we can't see if the marks are STAMPED into the metal (like a proper hallmark) or engraved, in which case, the marks have been added later.
